Mount Everest: An Australian man, Jason Bernard Kennison, who climbed Mount Everest after learning to walk again has died on his return from the summit, reported The Guardian. Kennison, who is from Perth, died after he became unresponsive at the summit on Friday. This is the 10th fatality on the world’s highest peak this climbing season, AFP reported.
Kennison, 40, who reportedly survived a bad car crash in 2006, died after becoming unwell on Friday, Asian Trekking told AFP. He was part of an expedition run by Asian Trekking.
Kennison had started showing abnormal behaviour from the south summit, The Guardian reported. He was then helped by two Sherpa guides who helped him down to the balcony area, which is 8,400m above sea level. The guides descended to camp four after Kennison refused to move, Sherpa said.
After becoming “unresponsive” at the summit, he was brought down to the Balcony area below the peak, Asian Trekking chief Dawa Steven Sherpa told AFP.
“Since the oxygen cylinders that they had with them were running out, they decided to descend to Camp 4 hoping to climb back again with oxygen cylinders to rescue him,” Sherpa said.
