Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has said that Australia will have to get the better of Virat Kohli to win the Border-Gavaskar series. India is set to play the first Test of the four-match series at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on February 9.
Speaking on the Backstage with Boria show, Stoinis called Kohli one of the best ever, insisting that the best players step up in the biggest series.
Virat is one of the best ever. The age he is at and the stage he is in his career, he will want to use this series as his platform. The best players always choose the best series. We have seen in the T20 World cup how good he was. It is an indication how hungry he is,” said Stoinis.
The 33-year-old said Australia will have to get the better of Kohli to win the four-match Test series, insisting that Baggy Greens will be ready for him.
“He is certainly one who can push us back and we will have to get the better of him to be able to win this series. And I can tell you that we will be ready for him,” Stoinis added.
He said that India will definitely miss the presence of pacer Jasprit Bumrah and wicket-keeping batter Rishabh Pant, who have been ruled out due to injuries.
