Assembly Elections-2024 Enthusiastic Voter response marks first day of Home Voting in Rajouri District

RAJOURI, SEPTEMBER 19: The first day of home voting for the Legislative Assembly Elections 2024 being held in all Assembly Constituencies (ACs) of Rajouri district saw an overwhelming response from voters.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced the facility of home voting for elderly citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Voters above 85 years of age and PwDs with 40% or more benchmark disabilities are eligible for this facility. The initiative aims to enhance accessibility and ensure that every voter can participate in the electoral process, irrespective of physical limitations.

The Rajouri District has 1,615 above 85 year voters and 744 registered PwD voters. The enthusiasm of these citizens was clearly evident as they cast their votes from the comfort of their homes on the first day of home voting.

The home voting will continue for two days, ensuring that all eligible voters have sufficient time to exercise their right. Local authorities, in collaboration with election officials, have made meticulous arrangements to ensure a smooth, secure, and inclusive voting experience.

District Election Officer (DEO) Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, flagged off home voting teams for Assembly Constituency Rajouri from Government Degree College (GDC) Rajouri. He also interacted with the teams, encouraging them to perform their duties diligently.

Following this, the DEO visited Assembly Constituency Thanamandi to review ongoing election preparations. During his visit, he stopped at GDC Thanamandi, where he took part in a signature campaign and plantation drive. He also interacted with first-time voters, motivating them to actively participate in the Assembly Elections 2024 and exercise their democratic rights.

The home voting initiative underscores the commitment of the Election Commission to an inclusive electoral process, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of age or physical ability, has the opportunity to make their voice heard.
