Australia gave England a dose of their own medicine as the visitors scored in excess of 4 runs per over, racing to 339 for 5 at Stumps on Day 1 of the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord’s on Wednesday, June 28. England spoke aplenty about continuing Bazball, their aggressive approach despite the defeat in the first Test in Birmingham, but there was very little to show for as they looked flat for the most part of the opening day.

After having lost the toss and sent into bat on Day 1, Australia went to the close of play at 339 for 5. Steve Smith remained unbeaten on 85, threatening to score another Ashes century at the Lord’s, and the standing ovation that he got from the dressing room told the story. It was Australia that dominated the opening day’s play as they set themselves a fine platform to dominate the Test and hammer another blow at England’s Bazball approach.

In fact, it was Australia who Bazball-ed on Day 1 of the 2nd Ashes Test as England’s bowlers and their captain’s plans on the field was far from impressive and entertaining.
