Arvind Kejriwal Expresses Gratitude to Congress Leaders for Opposition to Delhi Services Bill

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has penned letters of appreciation to Congress figures Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, acknowledging their support in opposing and voting against the Delhi Services Bill.

Despite resistance from the Congress and its allies, the bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Having already been approved by the Lok Sabha on August 3, the bill grants the central government-appointed Lieutenant Governor authority over Delhi’s bureaucrats. Once signed by the President and notified, the bill will supersede a May 11 Supreme Court ruling that granted control of the bureaucracy to the Delhi government, excluding areas like police, public order, and land.

Kejriwal’s letters to Gandhi and Kharge emphasized that the Congress’s opposition to the bill will be etched in memory for years to come. He expressed anticipation of continued support in the battle against elements seeking to undermine the Constitution. Kejriwal conveyed deep appreciation for their steadfast commitment to upholding constitutional principles both inside and outside the Parliament.

In his letter to Singh, who was present in the Rajya Sabha in a wheelchair during the bill’s passage, Kejriwal applauded his resolute presence despite age and health constraints. This presence, he noted, symbolized poise, determination, and a firm commitment to safeguarding India’s democracy and federal structure against all odds.

Kejriwal asserted that Singh’s sheer attendance sent a powerful message to those attempting to weaken Indian democracy. He declared that such efforts would encounter strong resistance from leaders spanning generations and political spectrums. Kejriwal concluded that Singh’s dedication to the Constitution would serve as an enduring source of inspiration for generations to come.
