India left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh made his mark in the County Championship after being overlooked for the upcoming India tour of the West Indies. The left-arm pacer picked up two wickets for Kent, removing Emilio Gay and Luke Procter in identical fashion as both dismissals came in his first spell after Northamptonshire won the toss and elected to bat. Arshdeep Singh made the most of the new Dukes ball, bowling with pace and accuracy. He was unlucky not to pick up more wickets, but his performance was a promising sign for Kent. Australian Wes Agar was the pick of the bowlers for Kent, taking 5 wickets. Rob Keogh top-scored for Northamptonshire with 97, while Sam Whiteman, Tom Taylor and Saif Zaib all made valuable contributions.

Arshdeep Singh took four wickets on his County Championship debut, but Surrey chased down a target of 501 runs to record the ninth-highest first-class run chase. The 24-year-old left-arm pacer finished with figures of 15-1-56-2, while Hamidullah Qadri took the remaining three wickets. Singh bowled with pace and accuracy, and he was unlucky not to take more wickets.

Surrey’s batsmen were in excellent form, and they chased down the target with 10 wickets in hand. Hashim Amla scored 185, while Rory Burns made 163. Surrey’s run chase was the ninth-highest first-class run chase in history. Singh’s performance will give him confidence ahead of the upcoming season. He is a talented bowler with a lot of potentials, and he will be hoping to make a strong case for selection for India in the future.
