Army evacuates trekker from 10,000 ft: Army’s 34 Assam Rifles on Wednesday responded to a distress call and evacuated a trekker at 10,000 ft near Nandkol lake on the Great Lakes Trek in Ganderbal district.
“On a distress call by a group of trekkers at 10,000 ft near Nandkol lake on the Great Lakes Trek in Ganderbal District, the nearby Assam Rifles camp immediately responded and despatched a rescue team accompanied by a medical assistant,” a statement issued to the news agency.
“Abdul Jabbar, age 37 years hailing from Maldha, WB suffered from Low Oxygen levels at Nand Kol. While the group was getting down to Naranag from Nandkol, the trekker suffered from low oxygen level,” the statement added.
“The group immediately contacted the nearby Assam Rifles Camp for help. An immediate rescue was launched by the Indian Army,” the defense spokesman said.
“Indian Army medical team was subsequently reinforced by an ambulance and a team of doctors from Kangan Trauma Hospital. The teams rushed to the spot and provided medical assistance to the trekker at Naranag, from where, he was further evacuated to Kangan Trauma Hospital,” it added.
