Archery tournament concludes at Barchey Colony, Kargil Town

A local archery tournament organized by Sports & Education Association Barchey concluded today at Barchey Colony, Kargil.

Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho was the chief guest on the occasion while Advocate Asgar Ali Yarkain was the guest of honour. BDC Sodh Zakir Hussain, Sarpanchs, Panchs, Archery Players and locals also attended the event.

The Joint Director, Information lauded the efforts of the Sports & Education Association, Barchey in organizing the tournament and appreciated the teams for participating with great enthusiasm.

While pointing out that there is no dearth of talent among youngsters of Kargil, Kacho said that they should get a chance to compete at the national and international levels. He said archery should not remain confined just to the winter season but should become a round-the-year feature so that talented young players can boost their sportsmanship and enhance their skills.

He further said that archery is an integral part of Ladakh ‘s cultural game played in almost every part of Ladakh. Rather than just a competition, it is a sort of celebration for people and a source of socialization. It is our responsibility to keep such customs and rituals alive, he emphasized.

Advocate Asgar Ali Yarkain in his address talked about the progress of Sports & Education Association, Barchey and congratulated it’s management for its registration. He said that after the formation of Union Territory of Ladakh, immense opportunities and avenues are being provided to players.

Earlier, BDC Sodh welcomed the guests and other participants and thanked them for attending the event.

A total of 34 teams took part in the tournament out of which Young Star Sarchay and RSY Pashkyum faced each other in the final contest. RSY Pashkyum earned 33 points won the tournament while Young Star Sarchay earned 32 points and was declared the runners-up.
