A football match between Iran and Wales during the 2020 Qatar World Cup was clouded by controversy after Iran’s supporters protesting against the country’s forced hijab law were confronted by pro-government fans before kickoff, a report said.
Some protesting fans said they had flags taken away from them, while others were shouted at and harassed. Doha stadium security officials also confiscated T-shirts and other items displaying anti-government sentiments, BBC reported.A glimpse of the anti-hijab protests, that have grown into one of the largest sustained challenges to Iran’s theocracy since the months after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, was seen on Friday as a supporter with blood tears make up on her face holding a football jersey reading the name of Mahsa Amini, posed with another supporter.
