Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar while expressing serious concern over more than three and a half years detention of its president Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, said that he was barred from performing 183rd consecutive Friday prayer, which is extremely condemnable.
“Today, in his Friday sermon at the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar, Imam Hai Moulana Ahmad Saeed Naqshbandi expressed strong reaction against the continuous detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and urged the authorities, especially the Lieutenant Governor, to stay true to his word and ensure the release of Mirwaiz on the holy occasion of Shab-e-Baraat and the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan so that he can fulfill his responsibilities towards the people,” a statement issued.
On the occasion, a large number of men and women from cities and towns who had come to offer Friday prayers and listen to Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir’s sermons once again expressed their disappointment.
Expressing anger against the behaviour of the authorities, they strongly protested against the continuous detention of Mirwaiz, which they termed as “extremely dictatorial”.
