As the second phase of polling began in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged voters to turn out in large numbers to support a developed and terror-free region. Voting started at 7 am on Wednesday across 26 assembly constituencies under tight security, with over 2.5 million voters set to decide the fate of 239 candidates.
In a message shared on social media platform ‘X,’ Shah appealed to voters to participate actively in the elections to help create a terror-free and developed Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the need to vote for a government that prioritizes the golden future of the youth, safeguards the rights of women and the underprivileged, and fosters the overall development of the Union Territory.
Shah’s appeal comes as several prominent figures, including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, compete in this phase. He urged the electorate to vote against terrorism, nepotism, and corruption, and strengthen democracy in the region.
The 26 assembly constituencies involved in this phase are spread across six districts, including both the Kashmir Valley and Jammu division. Key security arrangements are in place to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections.
