Union Home Minister Amit Shah has urged the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the ongoing Assembly elections, stressing the importance of forming a government that can secure the region’s future. With the first phase of elections kicking off on Wednesday, Shah emphasized that only a government with strong resolve can ensure a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir while safeguarding the rights of its people and accelerating development efforts.
In a statement, Shah appealed to voters, saying, “A government with a firm will is essential for eradicating terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir, protecting citizens’ rights, and boosting developmental projects.” He further encouraged voters to support a leadership that is committed to youth education, employment opportunities, women’s empowerment, and putting an end to separatism and nepotism in the region. Shah added, “First vote, then refreshment,” calling on residents to turn out in large numbers.
The voting, which began at 7 a.m., will conclude by 6 p.m., according to the Election Commission of India. This first phase covers 24 constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir, with 16 seats from the Kashmir region and 8 from the Jammu region.
As the elections progress, Amit Shah’s appeal underscores the central government’s aim to establish stability, security, and progress in the region.
