Srinagar | June 23, 2025: On the directions of All Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association (AJKSA) President Moulvi Imran Reza Ansari, a delegation of the Association today met the Mirwaiz of Kashmir, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, to seek his support and cooperation for the upcoming sacred month of Muharram, particularly with regard to the 10th Muharram (Ashura) procession in Srinagar.
The delegation comprised AJKSA District President Haji Firdaus Mirza, District Secretary Yaseen Mustafa, and Core Committee Member Srinagar, Asim Gazi. The meeting focused on the request for facilitation of the 10th Muharram procession via the historic original route from Abi Guzar, or—if that is not permitted—through a temporary alternative route from Botaqadal to Zadibal via MK Chowk Hawal- Firdaus Cinema, an option that has been formally placed before the authorities.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq assured the delegation of his full support and cooperation, reiterating that the cause of Imam Hussain (A.S) transcends sectarian lines and is a collective legacy of all Muslims. He emphasized that the Mirwaiz family has always stood by the people, especially during sacred Islamic occasions such as Muharram, and would continue to do so.
The meeting also recalled the deep spiritual and personal bond between two iconic figures of Kashmiri Islamic leadership, Shaheed Moulvi Mohammed Farooq and the late Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari. Their legacy of unity, wisdom, and steadfastness in representing the voice of the people especially in times of grief and remembrance was respectfully remembered.
The All Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association expressed gratitude to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for his gracious response and his commitment to uphold the Islamic values of brotherhood, sacrifice, and mutual respect during Muharram. The Association reaffirmed its hope that the 10th Muharram procession will be allowed in accordance with the sentiments of the people and in honor of the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S).
