Airtel, Jio 5G now available on iPhone 12 and above: How to activate, internet speed and price

iPhone users in India can now enjoy 5G speeds with the recent rollout of the iOS 16.2 software update. The update unlocks 5G connectivity on iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 series alongside iPhone SE 3 (2022). In India, Airtel and Reliance Jio are currently rolling out 5G services in select cities for free. Activating 5G on iPhones is simple, but users may have questions about the cost and setup. How to activate 5G on iPhones in India

As mentioned, users will need to be on iOS version 16.2 to take advantage of 5G speeds. To download the latest update, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Once the update is installed, you may need to enable the 5G option by going to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Voice and Data > 5G or 5G Auto.

It’s worth noting that using 5G can affect battery life, so it’s recommended to select the 5G Auto option to help conserve power. Jio users may also see a 5G Standalone option, which will unlock the full potential of 5G. Airtel is using non-standalone 5G, which is based on an existing 4G network.

Where’s 5G available in India?

Airtel says its 5G services are available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, Varanasi, Panipat, Gurugram, Guwahati, and Patna. On the other hand, Reliance Jio 5G is available in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Nathdwara, and Gujarat (33 districts). If you are curious about 5G speeds, we were able to use Airtel 5G Plus in South Delhi. During our test, the download speed was 297Mbps, which is much better than the average 4G speed (20Mbps). Reliance Jio is testing its 5G with select customers, and the company is sending invites. We are yet to test Jio 5G speeds on an iPhone.
