Agniveer dies of injury in Akhnoor
An Agniveer on sentry duty inside an army unit at Tanda near Akhnoor town of Jammu died died from alleged bullet injuries under suspicious circumstances yesterday evening.
Police have confirmed the incident and said details are awaited. However, a terror angle has been ruled out, the police added.
When the Agniveer was on duty, others at the unit heard a gunshot in the evening. They rushed towards where the sound came from and found him lying injured. He was rushed to a nearby military hospital where he was declared dead.
The deceased was Pardeep Kumar identified as Darauli Block of Siwan district, Bihar state.
It is yet to be ascertained how the Agniveer sustained the injury – whether it was an accidental firing, alleged suicide with his weapon or he was shot by another personnel inside the unit.
