Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir – August 27, 2024: In a significant political development in Jammu & Kashmir, Aga Muntazir Mehdi officially joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today in Budgam. The event was marked by the presence of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, who welcomed Aga Muntazir into the party’s fold. This move is expected to bolster the party’s position in the region, especially among the youth and marginalized communities.
Aga Muntazir, hailing from Darul Mustafa, Shariat Abad in Budgam, has been an outspoken advocate for the rights and aspirations of the youth and marginalized communities in Jammu & Kashmir. With a rich background in community work and activism, Muntazir has played a pivotal role in various social and political movements across the region.
Muntazir has also been instrumental in organizing the first and only Interfaith Dialogue in the Kashmir Valley, bringing together religious leaders from diverse faiths to promote harmony and understanding. Additionally, he runs one of the largest blood donor networks in Jammu & Kashmir, showcasing his dedication to public welfare and service.
In his address at the event, Muntazir emphasized that his entry into politics is driven not by a desire for power but by a commitment to raising the marginalized voices of the youth. “I am here not for a position of power but for raising the marginalized voice of the youth. I look forward to working towards the constitutional protection and civic rights of my constituency,” Muntazir stated.
Aga Muntazir holds a BA LLB (Hons) degree and a Master’s in Constitutional Law. His academic pursuits also include specialized training in Islamic Jurisprudence, Interfaith Dialogue, Leadership, Environmental Laws, and Diplomacy in Foreign Policy.
Muntazir’s involvement with the think tank “People for Human Dignity” has further established his reputation as a scholar and activist deeply committed to studying societal marginalities and advocating for justice. His legal acumen has also seen him represent several youth under UAPA and other anti-establishment laws, where he has successfully challenged anti-people policies.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, while welcoming Aga Muntazir into the party, expressed her confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the party’s mission of advocating for the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. “Aga Muntazir’s unwavering commitment to the people, particularly the youth, aligns perfectly with our party’s vision. His experience and dedication will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts in addressing the aspirations of the people,” said Mufti.
The addition of Aga Muntazir to the PDP is expected to invigorate the party’s efforts in the upcoming political landscape, particularly in engaging with the youth and addressing the pressing issues facing the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
