ADC Kargil flags off World No Tobacco Day rally

An additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil Ghulam Mohi-ud-in Wani today flagged off World No Tobacco Rally from Old District Hospital Kargil.

During the event, Deputy CMO/Incharge CMO, Dr. Mohd Abass, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Haji Mohd Ali, District Immunization Officer, Dr. Jaleel, District Health Officer, Dr Rabia beside other concerned officials were present. The event was organized by District Health Society Kargil with the theme “We need food, not tobacco”.

On the occasion, ADC Kargil said that the main objective of the rally is to create awareness among the people about the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use.

He said that the World No Tobacco Day program will continue till June 15, 2023, and the anti-tobacco campaign will be organized in different block headquarters and health and wellness centers.

The ADC added tobacco use is not only harmful to people’s health, but it also harms family members putting them in emotional, physical, and financial distress.

In charge, CMO, Dr. Mohd Abass said the objective of Anti-Tobacco Day is to educate the public about the health risks associated with tobacco use, including smoking and smokeless tobacco products.

He said that the day highlights the importance of quitting tobacco and encourages governments, organizations, and individuals to take action against tobacco use.

Dr. Abass said the use of tobacco causes cancers of the mouth, throat, and lungs. He said that the near and dear ones of tobacco users are also prone to many side effects and tobacco.

He further added that the health department is going to organize a tobacco-free campaign in educational institutions to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use.

Students from Mutahhary Public School, Kargil, Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School and GNM School participated in the rally which culminated at Inqilab Manzil Kargil.
