Aditya-L1 will launch on Saturday: The first space-based observatory in India to study the Sun will launch on Saturday, September 2, at 11.50 a.m. from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, according to a report released on Monday by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The PSLV XL rocket of ISRO will launch the Aditya-L1 mission from Sriharikota’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR). The spacecraft will first be positioned in a Low Earth Orbit. The orbit will then become more elliptical, and the spacecraft will then use onboard propulsion to launch itself towards the Lagrange point (L1).
The spacecraft will leave the gravitational Sphere of Influence (SOI) of Earth as it moves closer to L1. After leaving SOI, the spacecraft will enter its cruise phase before being sent into a massive halo orbit around L1. Aditya-L1 would require roughly four months to travel from launch to L1.
