Rainstorms in Himachal: Continuous rains and landslides killed 81 people in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while work to rescue the injured and recover bodies from debris caused by house collapses in numerous places continued. Across the coming days, the weather service predicts isolated but significant rain across Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

On Wednesday, the death toll in Himachal Pradesh increased to 71, with more bodies being retrieved. “At least 71 people have died in the last three days, and 13 remain unaccounted for.” “A total of 57 bodies have been recovered since Sunday night,” said Principal Secretary (Revenue) Onkar Chand Sharma, according to Reuters.

According to the state emergency operations centre, 214 people have died in rain-related accidents in the state since the monsoon began on June 24, with 38 still missing.

“Rescue operations are underway in the Summer Hill and Krishna Nagar neighbourhoods.” Shimla Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi said, “A body was recovered from the Summer Hill site.” So far, 13 bodies have been recovered from Summer Hill, five from Fagli, and two from Krishna Nagar, according to him. Some people are still believed to be buried in the rubble of the Summer Hill Shiva temple, which fell on Monday.

Fearing landslides caused by the constant rains, some 15 houses in Krishna Nagar have been evacuated and families relocated to safer areas. Four bodies, including a couple and their son, were retrieved from the debris at a resort in Uttarakhand’s Lakshman Jhula that was devastated by a landslip on Monday after heavy rain. Two bodies were found late Tuesday and two more on Wednesday. With the finding of these four remains, the death toll in rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand has grown to ten.
