A fresh encounter broke out between terrorists and Security Forces on Wednesday evening in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda, making it fourth attack in the past 3 days, officials said.
As per the reports, a cop from Special Operations Group (SOG) has been injured.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, terrorists opened fire on a search team deployed in a village in the Gandoh area at 7.41 pm, to which security forces retaliated. The fire was reported from the Kota top area of Bhalessa.
“Today at 20:20 hrs, an encounter started between security forces & terrorists at Kota Top, Gandoh, Doda. Constable Fareed Ahmed (973/D) of SOG Gandoh was injured during the operation at Kerloo Bhalessa. Encounter ongoing, more details awaited,” ADGP Jammu said.
Official sources said that on specific input, a joint team of Police and the Army’s 4RR launched a cordon and search operation in the area. As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering off a gunfight.
During the initial exchange of fire, one SOG personnel received a bullet wound, he was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The fresh encounter broke out hours after six officials, including 5 jawans, were injured when militants attacked a checkpost in the region.
Five troopers of Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer (SPO) were injured when terrorists attacked a joint checkpost in the upper reaches of Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road late on Tuesday night.
Following the attack, traffic movement on the highway was suspended as an operation is underway to track down the terrorists.
The recent encounter took place in Gandoh Bhalessa town in Doda district. Additional troops have been rushed to the encounter site.
Doda and Kishtwar were a stronghold of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and Jaish from 1994 to 2001. In 1994, when there was massive pressure on them in Kashmir, they opened a new front to relieve pressure. A similar strategy is evident in these attacks as well.
