4 Dead in Uttarakhand Landslide: In the Tehri district of Uttarakhand’s Chamba, four people—two mothers and a four-month-old infant—were crushed to death on Monday after being hit by a landslip.
According to Tehri Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar, a 30-year-old man’s body was discovered in the evening among the wreckage. He was identified as Prakash, a local, according to the SP.
According to Bhullar, four bodies have so far been found, and efforts are being made to find a fifth individual who has vanished. The dead of two ladies and a child were discovered earlier in the day in a car that was buried beneath the landslip debris. Poonam Khanduri, her son, who was four months old, and her sister-in-law, Saraswati Devi, were all recognised as the deceased.
As the landslip struck a taxi stand close to the Chamba police station, he warned that several further vehicles might potentially be stuck.
The State Disaster Relief Force has deployed excavator equipment to conduct search and rescue, the police said, adding that the landslip has shut the New Tehri-Chamba motor road.
Heavy rains that have been falling in Uttarakhand have caused many landslides and flash floods. On Tuesday, the weather service issued an orange signal for the state’s five districts, including Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Bageshwar.
On Tuesday, the DM issued closure orders for all classes from kindergarten to twelve in Bhilangana, Chamba, Narendra Nagar, and Jaunpur in the Tehri district due to the MeT department’s heavy rain advisory for various parts of the state over the ensuing two days.
