4 notorious drug smugglers booked under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla: Police

Acting tough against drug peddlers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu & Kashmir Police on Friday said to have booked four most wanted and notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla and lodged them in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu.

The four most wanted and notorious drug smugglers namely Muzamil Majeed Bhat @ Hashim resident of Mohalla Mir Sahib Old Town, Showkat Ahmad Sheikh resident of Umerabad Srinagar, Hayat Ahmad Bhat resident of Kawoosa Budgam & Bashir Ahmad Sheikh resident of Palpora Pattan have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority. The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu, a police spokesman said.

Pertinent to mention that many cases are registered against these drug smugglers and were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Mohura Heewan, Bandipayeen Chandoosa, Khambiyar Pattan & other areas of District Baramulla. Despite their involvement in many FIR’s they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth, police said.

Meanwhile, general public of Baramulla appreciated the role of Police for their action against drug peddlers. “Baramulla Police consistent actions against the drug peddlers should reassure the community members that police is making all efforts to keep our society free from drug abuse,” the statement said.
