A 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Kashmir valley on Tuesday morning.As per National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the quake that hit Kashmir at 6: 45 am, was in northern Baramulla district.EQ of M: 4.9, On: 20/08/2024 06:45:57 IST, Lat: 34.17 N, Long: 74.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir,” said the NCS, in a post on X.
There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property.Most parts of Kashmir Valley, and Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar in Jammu region fall under Seismic Zone V – very high damage risk zone, as per Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority.
