Srinagar, January 29 (Gulistan News TV): An alarming discovery has been made in Ganderbal district, where a random sampling and testing drive carried out by the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department’s Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal/Srinagar found that 37 out of 40 springs are bacteriologically contaminated and unfit for human consumption.

In a public notice issued by the department, residents of Ganderbal and rural Srinagar have been urged to immediately stop using spring water for drinking purposes. The Executive Engineer, advised the public to rely solely on tap water until further instructions.

“The public is requested to refrain from using spring water as it is unfit for consumption. If necessary, spring water must only be consumed after prolonged boiling,” the notice read.

The Rural Water Supply Division has initiated a multi-pronged awareness campaign to ensure public safety.Posters are being put up at all affected springs.

Public announcements are being made in local mosques and temples.
The advisory will be broadcast through print and electronic media in Kashmiri and Urdu for three consecutive days.

The contamination has raised serious health concerns for thousands of residents who depend on spring water for daily use. Authorities have assured continuous monitoring and further updates on the situation.

For now, residents are urged to follow the advisory strictly to safeguard their health.
