WhatsApp for macOS Introduces Group Calls and Enhanced Features

The WhatsApp application for macOS follows the pattern set by its Windows desktop counterpart, being released in March. According to a press release from Meta, the app has undergone a redesign to align with the familiar interface of Mac systems.

  1. This update allows Mac users to engage in group calls, marking the first time this feature is available on the platform. Video calls can accommodate up to eight participants, while audio calls can include as many as 32 people.
  2. Users also have the capability to join ongoing group calls, view call records, and opt to receive call notifications even when the application is not active.
  3. Additionally, it is now possible to share files by simply dragging and dropping them into a chat, while also being able to access chat history.
  4. Much like WhatsApp across various devices, this macOS app ensures the security of private messages and calls through end-to-end encryption.
  5. To use this version of WhatsApp, macOS 11 or a more recent version is required.
