Earthquake tremors were felt in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi in the wee hours of Monday.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the 3.1 magnitude temblor occurred around 1:50 am. Its epicentre was located in Tehri Garhwal district, 24 km east-southeast of Uttarkashi, at a depth of 5 km.Uttarakhand was last jolted by a 4.5 magnitude earthquake on November 9, which struck the Tehri region.
The hill state has been jolted by 700 minor earthquakes in the past decade, and experts have warned that a major quake is round the corner in the Himalayan belt, one of the most seismically active in the world.
