27, including 3 children, killed in stampede at religious event in UP’s Hathras

A stampede broke out at a religious gathering in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of 27 people, including three children. Confirming the fatalities, Chief Medical Officer Rajkumar Aggarwal told India Today that so far “we have received 27 bodies.” Speaking about the incident, Etah SSP Rajesh Kumar Singh said, “A religious event was going on in a village of Hathras district when the stampede occurred. So far 27 dead bodies have been received in the Etah Hospital, including 23 women, 3 children, and 1 man. The injured have not reached the hospital… Further investigation is being carried out. Identification of these 27 bodies is being carried out.” According to the initial inputs, the stampede seemed to have occurred due to overcrowding, Sikandara Rao police station SHO Ashish Kumar said. The religious event for Lord Shiva was held in Hathras. As the event concluded, a stampede ensued, resulting in the death of 27 people, including women and children. The satsang was organised by the Manav Mangal Milan Sadbhavna Samagam Committee.
