2022 was the fifth warmest year on record, tied up with 2015, continuing the planet’s warm trends in yet another year. The latest assessment was released by Nasa based on satellite observations of the planet that is witnessing extreme weather events as climate change spells catastrophe.

The global temperatures in 2022 were 0.89 degrees Celsius above the average for the baseline period 1951-1980. Last year tied with 2015 as the fifth-warmest year since record-keeping began in 1880, Nasa said. That was despite the presence of the La Nina weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean, which generally lowers global temperatures slightly.
