18Rashtriya Rifles unfurled a hundred-foot-high national flag in the tourist resort of Gulmarg amid sub-zero temperatures and four feet of accumulated snow. The flag was hoisted by Army Colonel Gurpit Singh SM and saluted by Cable Car Managing Director Ghulam Jeelani Zargar. Other officers of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police also participated in the ceremony. Various school children also participated in this Republic Day event and presented various colorful programs. Weapons were also displayed in that event. Military personnel explained the importance of war weapons to the children. Local youth and elders also participated. Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Gurpit Singh SM highlighted the historical importance of Republic Day.
