Following the ban of Kiran Quazi, a 14-year-old software engineer hired by SpaceX, LinkedIn has faced another case involving a young professional unable to connect with others on the popular networking site. Eric Zhu, a 15-year-old high schooler running a startup and serving as an investor, recently shared his experience of being banned from LinkedIn and having to inform his new employee about it.
In a tweet, Eric expressed, “I had to tell my new employee that I got banned from LinkedIn for being 15 years old today…” LinkedIn’s policy requires users to be at least 16 years old to join the platform. The tweet gained significant attention, with over 600,000 views and 3,500 likes at the time of writing this report.
The response on Twitter varied, with some finding amusement in Zhu’s absence from LinkedIn, while others related to the situation. One Twitter user sarcastically commented, “Stopping you from having an account is definitely the best use of their time,” and another user added, “That’s a GREAT reason to tell someone that you were banned!”
Another individual tweeted, “Facing the same issues; some policies need to change! @LinkedIn, please give 15-year-olds a chance.” Eric Zhu, based in Indiana, USA, is a high school student who describes his company, Aviato, as the “ultimate startup search engine for venture funds.” Aviato has reportedly secured $1 million in pre-seed funding from investors, including Tom Preston-Werner, the founder of GitHub, and the owners of the Sacramento Kings, an American professional basketball team.
