10 people trapped at the Kol Dam: Officials said that ten persons were trapped at the Kol Dam Hydel Project in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Sunday, including five personnel of the forest department.

The captive individuals will soon be freed, according to Mandi Deputy Commissioner Arindam Chaudhary, who also stated that the situation is not life-threatening.

“The NDRF has begun the rescue operation in coordination with the local government and residents,”

Locals notified the administration, who then dispatched a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team to the area.

Five of those stranded at the scene, according to the authorities, are forest department employees: Bhadur Singh, Bhupesh Thakur, Roop Singh, Babu Ram, and Angad Kumar; the other five are locals: Nain Singh, Dagu Ram, Hem Raj, Bhudhi Singh, and Dharmendra.

A steamer is being used to assist with the rescue effort, according to the officials.

In the meantime, the hilly state will have severe to very heavy rain from August 22 to August 24, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which issued a “yellow” caution on Monday and a “orange” alert on Tuesday. The weather service has issued a moderate flash flood warning for the catchment areas of the districts of Chamba and Mandi and forecasted rain through August 26.

This monsoon, heavy rains have led to huge landslides, cloudbursts, and flash floods that have damaged the state severely. Over 200 individuals have reportedly died in Himachal as a result of rain-related incidents. A total of 113 landslides occurred during this year’s monsoon season, causing damage to 2,022 entirely damaged homes, 9,615 partially damaged homes.
