1 arrested following explosion in Bengal: According to police sources, the explosion at an illegal firecracker factory in the state’s North 24 Parganas area led to the arrest of one guy, Shafiq Ali, by the West Bengal Police.
According to other sources, the suspect was taken into custody in the district’s Nilganj region.
The district police had apprehended a couple more people and was questioning them in relation to the incident.
Ali was reportedly running a business of alleged illegal firecrackers in partnership with the factory’s owner, Keramat Ali, who, along with his son, died in the explosion.
According to a senior police official, the blast’s effect was so strong that over 50 nearby residences were partially destroyed and body parts were discovered on terraces of many buildings. They also believe that numerous individuals may still be trapped beneath the debris.
“This is very shocking and disturbing. I was in Siliguri earlier in the day where one of our young friends died because of an assault on her modesty. That is very painful. Now, we have this incident. I understand that eight precious lives have been lost,” Governor Dr CV AnandaBose said.
Twelve people were murdered in a similar explosion at an unlicensed firework factory in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district in May of this year, and three more were killed in an explosion in Maheshtala in the South 24 Parganas district.
